The history of the Boss Cats goes back a couple of years when Richard started attending the excellent Jam session held on a weekly basis in the Bewicks Suite in Maldon. Inspired by the talents of the many bands who played there Richard decided to start playing again after a lull of six years. He placed an advert on the Bewicks Web site looking for a drummer and bass player. In the meantime he purchased a PA system from Colin Potter whom happened to play bass and was looking for a band, he would eventually run the Bewicks. Rob Cuthbert saw the advert on the web site and after a few Jams they went out gigging as the Boss Cats playing mainly Stevie Ray Vaughn songs and hard Texas RnB.
Terry Hiscock also saw the advert and began Jamming with Richard and the Boss Cats. Eventually a change in direction, with the introduction of original acoustic songs, meant that the band became more jazzy and had a more laid back feel. Colin decided to leave and focus on his soul band ( (The Southeren Soul Machine) David Howlett, who plays with Rob in the Tight Lines band, joined. This was initially for the Brentwood Acoustic Music Festival but has now joined full time. Lizzie B added the Mighty after an Introduction at the st Annes Castle gig. This also differentiates between the Stevie Ray Vaughn aspects, which still occasionally plays under the Boss Cats moniker, with Colin on Bass.
2009 - Rob decided to retire on medical reasons. The band have reformed with a new percussionist (Fluff) and a new Upright bass player ( Geoff Conway) - We are currently reherasing up for a new CD
